I know that struggle personally.
There are seasons when Bible journaling feels natural and life-giving… and then there are seasons when life gets full, routines fall apart, and suddenly it’s been way too long since you last opened your journaling supplies.
If that’s where you are right now, you’re not alone.
The good news is this: consistency doesn’t require perfection. It just takes a rhythm that works for your real life.
Today I want to share a few practical tips that can help you make Bible journaling a more regular part of your week—without pressure, guilt, or unrealistic expectations.
One of the biggest mistakes we make is setting a goal that sounds good… but doesn’t fit our life.
It’s easy to think, “I’m going to Bible journal every day!” But if your schedule is already full, that goal can quickly become discouraging.
Instead, try setting a goal that feels doable.
Maybe that looks like:
Consistency doesn’t have to mean daily. It means choosing a pace you can actually keep.
And here’s the encouraging part: even small, steady steps add up. One entry a week turns into a lot over time, and each one is another moment spent with the Lord in His Word.
Having a place to journal can make a bigger difference than you might think.
It doesn’t have to be fancy. You don’t need a perfectly styled craft room or a giant desk. It can be:
The goal is simple: make it easy to begin.
When your supplies are scattered or hard to access, it’s much harder to stay consistent. But when you have a dedicated space (or even a dedicated setup), it removes one more barrier and makes journaling feel inviting.
Think of it as creating a little “meeting place” for you and the Lord.
Consistency grows best when it has a home in your schedule.
That doesn’t mean your routine has to be rigid. It just means choosing a time that naturally fits your day.
Maybe you love quiet mornings with coffee before everyone else is up. Maybe evenings are better when the day winds down. Maybe your best time is during nap time, lunch break, or Sunday afternoon.
There’s no “right” time to Bible journal.
The right time is the one you’ll actually return to.
Try attaching Bible journaling to something you already do:
Linking it to an existing habit makes it easier to remember and easier to repeat.
Sometimes the hardest part is not knowing what to journal.
When that happens, inspiration can be such a gift.
You can find fresh ideas by:
But one of the most encouraging things you can do is something many people forget:
This is one of my favorite ways to get inspired again.
When you review what you’ve already journaled, you’re reminded of what God has been teaching you. You see prayers He answered, verses that carried you through hard seasons, and truth that still speaks to your heart today.
It’s not just inspiring creatively—it’s encouraging spiritually.
Looking back often gives you the motivation to keep going.
If Bible journaling starts to feel stale, it may be time to change things up a little.
One of the best parts of Bible journaling is that there are so many ways to do it. There are no strict rules, and you don’t have to do the same kind of entry every time.
Try changing one thing:
You do not have to create a masterpiece.
Sometimes the most meaningful entries are the simplest ones.
Keeping it fun and low-pressure makes it much easier to stay motivated.
This one matters so much.
You are going to miss days.
You may even miss a week or more.
That does not mean you failed.
Life happens. Schedules change. Energy runs low. Hard seasons come.
Instead of slipping into guilt, just reset.
Start again with one verse.
One note.
One sticker.
One prayer.
Bible journaling is not about checking a box or proving something. It’s about spending time with God, soaking in His Word, and responding with your heart and creativity.
Grace belongs in this process too.
So if you’ve fallen out of rhythm, let today be your fresh start.
If you want to build consistency, here’s a super simple quick win:
Pick one verse today and make a very simple entry using this formula:
1. Read one verse slowly. Here are some ideas for a place to start:
Joshua 1:9
Isaiah 41:10
Colossians 3:15
James 1:5
2. Circle one word you notice
3. Write a short phrase in the margin to remind you of what the verse teaches you about God.
4. Add one simple creative touch to draw your eye back to the verse when you return. (sticker, washi tape, highlight, or colored pen)
That’s it.
No complicated layout.
No pressure to make it pretty.
No long journaling session required.
This gives you a completed entry, helps you reconnect with God’s Word, and reminds you that consistency can start small.
You can get some fun stickers and doodles in my free printable and see how easy it is to make a simple entry you can come back to again and again.
Happy journaling!
